Handmade Wheels

Like all bike shops that service what they sell, replacement wheels are an important piece of our servicing operation. We sell quality wheels with a sensible price tag.

Many of our customers look to wheel upgrades as a cost-effective way of reducing weight and improving suspension performance. From experience with our own bikes we know how good a professionally-built wheel can be.

Since 2021 we’ve worked with Trent at Havacrack Wheels on many projects. His wheels can be found on all of my custom bikes and whenever a customer has a specific requirement, we have Trent build the wheel. His wheel builds are magnificent and they seem to never lose their true.

Custom wheels are expensive though, and for a while now I’ve been working on a plan to bring hand-made wheel performance to every rider – without the crazy pricetag.

I’m happy so say that our new wheelsets are now in stock. This new range of HavacraK MTB wheels gives you hand-made wheel performance with the versatility of freehub spec to suit the bike you have now and the bike you’ll have next.

Key to this new range of wheels is the rear hub. We wanted a wheel capable of the punishment of eMTB, but without the weight of old-school DH or Enduro wheels.
With the recent release of the Novatec D902SB hub with their new ‘H Type’ freehub standard, we can now build super-strong wheels for eMTBs that are being ridden hard. The E440 freehub body has a 4-pawl system for the high-torque loads of eMTBs with 2 sealed bearings each in both the wheel and freehub.

The rear wheel in 12×148 is available with three freehub options: Shimano HG (8-11sp), Shimano Microspline (12sp) or SRAM XD.

The Lincoln wheelset uses Novatec hubs, triple-butted spokes with brass nipples, eyeleted 35mm alloy rims and they’re taped ready for tubeless.

Front wheel is 15×110 in 27.5 or 29 and they’re $449.
Rear wheels are 12×148 in 27.5 or 29 and they’re $529-$599 depending on your freehub requirements.

We don’t think there’s a comparable eMTB wheelset for under $1000.

Every Lincoln wheel option is in stock at CBC. We add your choice of freehub when you order.

The Max wheelset uses Novatec hubs, triple-butted spokes with brass nipples, eyeleted 35mm Reserve alloy rims and they’re tubeless ready. These rims come with a lifetime warranty so if you damage the rim we’ll replace it for free. Front wheel is 15×110 in 27.5 or 29 $649. Rear wheels are 12x148x27.5 or 29 and they’re $729-799 depending on your freehub requirements – we can do Shimano HG, Shimano Microspline or SRAM XD.

$1400 for a wheelset that comes with lifetime warranty on the rims. You ding the rim and we’ll replace it for free.

All Max wheels are made-to-order and take about three weeks.

All of these wheels are hand-built by Trent and come with 12 month warranty on the build plus a free re-tension at 500kms. Bearing and freehub maintenance is backed up with good stocks of spare parts right here at CBC.

The value in these wheels is long life, and they’ll transfer between bikes when you upgrade because we only do them in Boost sizing. All of the rear wheels have interchangeable freehubs so if your current bike is Shimano 12sp, order your wheels with a Microspline freehub. If your next bike is SRAM 12sp, bring us your rear wheel and we’ll convert it to XD for $100.
